Longchamps Restaurant New York 1920s Era Gorham Silver Plate Serving Tray
This beautiful serving tray was made by the renowned Gorham company in the 1920s, and was used in the historic Longchamps Restaurant in New York City. The tray features intricate detailing and is made of high-quality silver plate. Its historical significance as part of the restaurant’s service adds to its charm and collectibility. The tray would make a perfect addition to any collection of vintage hotel and restaurant memorabilia, or as a unique and stylish serving piece for any occasion. 12 X 16 inch 2 Pounds 10 ounces. Honest wear from use and age in this famous NY Restaurant. Great piece of New York Restaurant History. Plate missing in some small points. Several pictures taken at different angles to show condition. Longchamps was a chain of several upscale restaurants centered in Manhattan that consisted of twenty or more locations at its peak, including the Showboat Restaurant located in the Empire State Building. The chain’s first location was opened in 1919. Longchamps restaurants were known for their natty art deco furnishings and decorations by Winold Reiss, and a number of designs for elements of their physical surroundings were drawn up by New York architect Ely Jacques Kahn, originator of a colorful version of art deco architecture. In the early 1960s, Longchamps was the first – and perhaps the only – restaurant to introduce complementary Metrecal at luncheon, [citation needed] and was otherwise known for such specialties as Oxtail Ragout, Crabmeat a la Dewey, Nesselrode Pie, and “21-Percent Butterfat Ice Cream”.
