The Sea Cave was started in 1899 and was located in Oakland California at 441 – 12th Street. The Sea Cave was considered one of the finest seafood restaurants in the Oakland area. The plate is the rarer version with the three (3) fish on the top (with on hanging over the outerboarder pinstripe of the plate) with the wording “Sea Cave” at the top. The restaurant advertised as “We Specialize in all kinds of sea food – Fresh Rainbow Trout and all kinds of shell Fish to Take Home”. During the time that this plate was used, the restaurant also advertised as having “24 Booths for Ladies”. This plate was not a souvenir; rather, this was actual china used in the Restaurant’s dining room and used in connection with silver plate for table settings. This is the heavyweight type Railroad, Hotel, Lunch Room, and Steamship China. It has no cracks, no chips, and has only very light usage. It was made by the Wallace China Co. In Los Angeles, CA, and is datecoded 10-V – December of 1949.
