The Well Of The Sea pattern is a five color display featuring stylized fish with various hooks and lures on a white ground for the Dinner Plates. Four of the other pieces are only in black and white. The rim is embossed scalloped with an embossed line that follows the scalloping. The base has the Shenango China New Castle Pa mark and code’H15′ that dates these to 1957. While the seafood cuisine was legendary, it was the restaurant ambiance itself that attracted so many admirers. The interior was designed by artists, architects, and interior designers to evoke the experience of dining under the sea. Rather than a literal interpretation, this was accomplished through the use of abstract murals and sculpture of fish, lures, and bait, all lit dramatically.
