Rare 1949 Wallace Restaurant China Sea Cave Plate
RARE 1949 WALLACE RESTAURANT CHINA “SEA CAVE” PLATE. Is a very rare 1949 top logo 9 wide china dinner plate from the famous Sea Cave restaurant. The Sea Cave was started in 1899 and was located in Oakland California at 441 – 12th Street. The Sea Cave was considered one of the finest seafood restaurants in the Oakland area. The plate is the rarer version with the three (3) fish on the top (with on hanging over the outerboarder pinstripe of the plate) with the wording “Sea Cave” at the top. The restaurant advertised as “We Specialize in all kinds of sea food – Fresh Rainbow Trout and all kinds of shell Fish to Take Home”. During the time that this plate was used, the restaurant also advertised as having “24 Booths for Ladies”. This plate was not a souvenir; rather, this was actual china used in the Restaurant’s dining room and used in connection with silver plate for table settings. This is the heavyweight type Railroad, Hotel, Lunch Room, and Steamship China. It has no cracks, no chips, and has only very light usage. It was made by the Wallace China Co. In Los Angeles, CA, and is datecoded 10-V – December of 1949.

Longchamps Restaurant New York 1920s Era Gorham Silver Plate Serving Tray
This beautiful serving tray was made by the renowned Gorham company in the 1920s, and was used in the historic Longchamps Restaurant in New York City. The tray features intricate detailing and is made of high-quality silver plate. Its historical significance as part of the restaurant’s service adds to its charm and collectibility. The tray would make a perfect addition to any collection of vintage hotel and restaurant memorabilia, or as a unique and stylish serving piece for any occasion. 12 X 16 inch 2 Pounds 10 ounces. Honest wear from use and age in this famous NY Restaurant. Great piece of New York Restaurant History. Plate missing in some small points. Several pictures taken at different angles to show condition. Longchamps was a chain of several upscale restaurants centered in Manhattan that consisted of twenty or more locations at its peak, including the Showboat Restaurant located in the Empire State Building. The chain’s first location was opened in 1919. Longchamps restaurants were known for their natty art deco furnishings and decorations by Winold Reiss, and a number of designs for elements of their physical surroundings were drawn up by New York architect Ely Jacques Kahn, originator of a colorful version of art deco architecture. In the early 1960s, Longchamps was the first – and perhaps the only – restaurant to introduce complementary Metrecal at luncheon, [citation needed] and was otherwise known for such specialties as Oxtail Ragout, Crabmeat a la Dewey, Nesselrode Pie, and “21-Percent Butterfat Ice Cream”.

WILDERNESS antique seattle washington vtg syracuse china restaurant witch plate
WILDERNESS witch 9 luncheon plate. The date code is F-6 for June-1925 (see invoice above) and there was 1st firing of this pattern in 1922. Wilderness is now known as the Seattle area districts of: Maple Valley, Lake Wilderness and the eerily wiccan-named towns like: Ravensdale, Black Diamond and Covington was there a witch coven in the area? ! The most logical explanation for this pattern is that it is a yet-to-be-identified railroad line. The flying witch, a symbol of swift transportation. Railroad china patterns often pictured indigenous plant life (flowers you might see out the window of your railway car) and the flower on this platter is the Pacific Northwest’s Syringa (wild lilac, Philadelphus lewisii or Lewis’ mock-orange after explorers Lewis & Clark). The chimney-ed building is almost certainly the original Maple Valley train station (see comparisons above). In fact, it looks like the roof-graphic on this plate was drawn directly from the very circa 1887 photo pictured above! W e’ve been told that a WILDERNESS railroad Stop has been found on a circa 1920s map archived by the Lake Wilderness Historical Society but we have yet to confirm. If that Stop was renamed the Maple Valley depot (photo above) is not clear. Companies known to use the route were the Columbia and Puget Sound Railroad, later becoming the Pacific Coast Railroad. And Great Northern Railway. Another possibility is a restaurant. The Jacobsen family settled in the area in the late 1800s and, in the 1920s, built three Lake Wilderness fishing resorts with dining facilities. But witches are known for serving poisonous food (apples etc) so what restaurant would use a witch as a logo? Or, maybe a small air service? Speeding over the top of the Maple Valley depot as a snub to reach Seattle quicker? We would love to hear from Railroad, Wiccan and Seattle / Maple Valley area historians. This is a new discovery and we will update this listing as information comes in. NOTE: the invoice is archived in a museum and not included in this sale. A five pound sterling silver ” Bug Basket ” from Buckingham Palace, the most-prized possession of the last reigning monarch of The Kingdom of Hawai’i, an artifact from The White House and Porcellian Club (the birthplace of Facebook), the first man to the moon’s 1st appearance in Space and an 1885 New York City “Sitting Bull” Cigar Store Indian are but a few of our most interesting pieces. Presidents, a Prime Minister and other Heads of State, Middle Eastern & European monarchs, museums, Hollywood celebrities, billionaire software & oil tycoons and the World’s leading interior decorators & designers. The best way to view our store is by’highest prices first’.
